Environmental Legal Action Chambers (ELAC)
Resilience Maldives
The Environmental Legal Action Chambers (ELAC) constitutes the dedicated legal division of Resilience Maldives, mandated to undertake public interest environmental protection through regulatory enforcement, compliance oversight, and strategic litigation. Acting under the authority and oversight of the Board of Directors, the Office is empowered to initiate, support, or intervene in judicial and administrative proceedings where environmental harm, statutory breach, or regulatory non-compliance is alleged or established.
ELAO is directed by appointed legal counsel who serve as the organisation’s principal advocates and legal advisers, providing representation, legal opinion, and fiduciary counsel to the Board in all matters concerning environmental law, governance, and institutional liability. The Office operates in accordance with applicable domestic law and recognised principles of international environmental governance, including precaution, prevention, accountability, and access to environmental justice.
All legal action undertaken by ELAC is exercised in the public interest, grounded in evidentiary and scientific substantiation, and directed toward the protection of ecological integrity, regulatory compliance, and the lawful stewardship of environmental resources
